It appears that Ryder Ripps may have had enough of the metaverse and NFTs. In a recent tweet, the controversial figure posted a screenshot from The Sandbox metaverse, saying that “the metaverse is just a garbage failed videogame from 1980 that costs $50,000 to play”.
Ryder Ripps takes aim at the metaverse and NFT space
Ryder Ripps followed up his tweet criticizing the metaverse with another tweet aimed at NFTs. In it, he says, “YTMND is more culturally relevant, artistically rich and technically impressive than anything in ‘the NFT space’”. For those who don’t know, You’re The Man Now, Dog (YTMND) is a comedy meme site launched in 2001.
While many people criticize the metaverses of today, Ryder Ripps’ digs at the metaverse and NFTs were pretty harsh. Notably, Ryder Ripps has been an infamous contributor to the NFT space for some time. Back in March 2021, Ryder Ripps and his then-fiancé Azealia Banks sold an audio sex tape as an NFT. The pair broke up soon after.
Before this metaverse criticism, Ryder Ripps had started a number of noisy feuds against people in the NFT space. For one thing, there are his repeated claims that the BAYC founders of racist. Despite getting little to no response from the Yuga Labs team, Ripps hasn’t let go of the accusations.
More recently, Ryder Ripps even tried to drag World of Women into the feud, with very little success. It seems the WoW community rebuffing Ryder Ripps may have actually prompted him to start a new feud. To that end, he also tweeted out yesterday implying that the WoW art was unoriginal.
